Sweet Style Saturdays: Gone to the Beach

As the temperature soars to 99 today I’m finding it a bit difficult to “talk style” so I’m going to take a few weeks off from “Sweet Style Saturdays” to hit the beach!

Here’s what I can’t get enough of these long summer days…

Nail art

Sweet Style Saturdays: Nail Art

I think its pretty safe to say that nail art is a trend. Last year around this time I blogged about my love for glitter nailpolish. Since then I’ve seen nails getting glittered, brighter with crazier colors and, these days, funkier and way more artsy. One of my fave fellow bloggers, Missy at Pink Pistachio, even blogged about how to D.I.Y. the trendy (but bumpy) “caviar” technique!

DBF fave Glitter polish

The roundup of my fave glitter nailpolishes from last summer… “Happy Birthday” by Deborah Lippman (center) is still in my top three!

While on a wine tasting tour in Cali last week (blog about that to follow), I could not help but notice that one of our favorite wine experts, Lauren at SIP, had the most adorable manicure. She mentioned she took a photo of her dog to her manicurist and this was the result.

Lauren Dog Nail Art

I especially loved the turquoise base color of Lauren’s mani!

Since I my hands get pretty beat up between baking and crafting, it doesn’t make much sense for me to get weekly or even bi or tri weekly manicures. So I thought I’d give this trend a D.I.Y. try using a cool tool I found at Rite Aid: the Nail Art Pen by Sally Hansen.

DBF nail art

The orange nail pen blended in a bit too much over the neon pink on my toes but worked really well with my graffiti inspired heart design drawn over one coat of Happy Birthday glitter polish. The pen “art” looks much better with a coat of clear polish to set it.

I am definitely going to try some more options and trends with nail art and even though they are about $8 per pen, I purchased two additional nail pens in black and white. (I think some love bug and/ or love bird owl nail art might be in order!)

In the meantime, check out some more nail art inspiration on my Nail Art Pinterest board
