A Merry Merry December

Happy New Year! Wait, what day is it?! I realize talking about December might already be “so over” but I  have been trying to write this blog post for eight days! We celebrated the last of Christmas last Saturday then New Years Eve was up! Whew! December is always a whirlwind month for me- is it possible that it gets crazier every year? Or am I just getting older and it seems that way? Here’s some of the fun projects we worked on in December and some of the fun adventures we had…

We kicked off the month with a trip to Fairfield Garden Center. A palce of our youth, I thought it would be fun to intro the next generation of Boglivis to this wonderfully weird place.

We kicked off the month with a trip to Fairfield Garden Center. A place my brother and I visited every year as kids. Once December comes, they transform the garden shop into the “Christmas Ice Caverns”.  They also have one of the best Santas in NJ! (He is the real deal- he told me!) I thought it would be fun to intro the next generation of Boglivis to this wonderfully nostalgic place…

Cece was not so into Santa.

Ok so Cecelia was not so into Santa but she did enjoy the rest of the caverns. We will be back next year! (Photo by Nicole, C’s Mom)

KF gifted his design team Pantone mugs as a Holiday thank you for a job well done. I couldn't resist adding a few gingermen!

As designers we are huge fans of all things Pantone! KF gifted his design team Pantone mugs as a Holiday thank you for a job well done. I couldn’t resist adding a few gingermen!

This was one of our bigger orders of the month... Scow Scene cookies for a fabulous kids snow party. We mixed it up by adding the soldiers and ginger girl versions.

This was one of our bigger orders of the month… Snow Scene ornament cookies (made with our new cutter we debuted for Christmas 2013) for a fabulous kiddo snow party. We mixed it up by adding the soldiers and “ginger girl” versions which fancied purple skies.

Even though I LOVE the craziness of our usual faux silver tree, we decided to switch it up a bit and go with a real tree this year. Here we are at Porta in Asbury where they were running an amazing tree/ pizza/ wine special!

A Beautiful October

Pumpkin Picking, Colts Neck NJ, October 2013

Pumpkin Picking at Eastmont Orchard, Colts Neck NJ, October 2013

With a few obvious and unavoidable exceptions, I try not to get into the habit of assigning ceremony to the most terrible and awful of days. A year ago, minus about a week, Hurricane Sandy hit, leaving NJ and surrounding areas devastated. This past weekend marked the anniversary of when the lights came back on which is the day I remember most clearly. Shortly after that long week spent sitting in the dark, I designed our Jersey Strong cookies and we got back to the business of what our “new normal” in NJ would be, supporting those towns, businesses and restaurants coming back and cheering on and rooting for those still recovering. Being grateful for every moment has always been part of my life, but it was especially highlighted after Sandy and other events of last year (some terribly sad, others truly amazing).

This past October was so different from last year! Fall came quickly after Labor Day and the weather was beautiful and crisp. We packed it with festive fall activities- pumpkin picking, pumpkin decorating, haunted house visits…

We decorated lots of pumpkins this year including KF's signature KISS pumpkin gourds. He makes them every year!

Mike's Atlantic Firghtland's haunted house was a hoghlight (enhanced by Kath's yummy cider) as was Zomboe Walk in Asbury Park

Mike Boylan’s Atlantic Frightland’s haunted house was a Halloween highlight (enhanced by his wife, Kath’s yummy, munchkin garnished, spiked cider) as was attending and being inspired by the record breaking Zombie Walk in Asbury Park!

…Before I had the minute to compare, I realized it might have just been the most beautiful October I can remember. I am so lucky to have a job that participates in the happiness of life occasions and while I was busy spreading the October love this past month, I was lucky enough to get some back…

The ornaments created by Paul and Lianne of Swirly Designs were so amazing, I could not wait to giftthem to my niece! Here's the lil' tree her Mom added to their indoor pumpkin arrangement

I also loved seeing the tree Darcell Brown decorated at the center of her table. This West Elm tree is a great "all year round" tree!

So, as we said many times in the year since Sandy, “You can’t keep a Jersey Girl down!” but the reality for me is, gratitude and spreading the love is the best and most effective way to move on from dark times. Thank you to everyone who reached out and shared your fun and fabulous moments with us! It truly means the world to me and is the inspiration to keep on keeping on. This Holiday season we plan to spread the love on extra thick- I can hardly wait! Miss you October 2013! Mwha!  Xo Dani
