Like many people, I like to look every January and the New Year as a fresh start or in artsy-er terms, a blank canvas. Every year we love to host a little New Years Day brunch and anytime the kiddos in our lives come to visit they pretty much expect to craft- which I LOVE! Its one of my very fave things about being everyone’s #1 Aunt!
This year I set the table using these cute cut out paper boy and girl people by Creatology at each place. I wrote each person’s name on them to use as place cards. After breakfast we pulled out the markers, googly eyes, crayons, stickers, scrap fabric and glue and got down to business.
Each person was asked to make a self portrait on the blank side, then on the other, where their names were written, write down one thing they hope to do this year that they have never done before. This proved to be a tougher question for the adults at the table- interesting!
Of coarse the most fun part was sharing all the things we hope to do. The results were amazing!
In addition to this being a fun craft, you can continue to enjoy these paper friends all year round as Kevin Kane proved by stashing his guy on our shelf “Flat Stanley” style!
What do you want to do this year that you have never done before? This is a great question for kids and adults! As you think more and more and make plans for the year ahead, I hope this lil’ project inspires you to make your own self portrait blank canvas for 2016, set your intentions and get creating! We’d love to hear and see what you come up with!
Happy New Year! Life and blank canvases are SWEET! Xo Dani
