Cookie Yoga

Happy National Yoga Month!

Happy National Yoga Month!

I tried yoga for the first time a few years ago. In my younger days I had the wrong impression that it would not be an intense enough workout to counteract all of my cookie eating but boy, was I wrong!

I was super excited when Heirloom Kitchen asked me to create cookie favors for an opening party they were hosting for Lululemon. I immediately reached out to Yummi Yogi… I had been admiring their adorable cookie cutters at the studio I take yoga and barre class for a while and Amy Dube, the owner, generously offered to send me the entire set!

Channeling my inner cookie yogi, I mapped out a plan to design cookie favors for the event take home as well as some cookies for the Lululemon guests to eat right on the spot. I decorated the favor cookies using my fave marbleizeing technique…

I love how the marbelized lines make these yogis look like they are expending energy! That was the effect I was going for.

I had SO much fun decorating this set!

I stuck with a black, white and red color scheme for the outfits. I am in love with all the fun patterned yoga pants so I had fun adding some designed ones in.

When it came time for dessert, I jumped in to help reset the table with sweets.

We barely got the cookies and cuppies out before people were eating them- this always makes me so happy!

The carrot cupcakes with cream cheese frosting were so delish I ate one and put one in my bag for the next day! Yes!!!

Thanks to Heirloom Kitchen for including me in such a SWEET event! I am so looking forward to our upcoming Holiday cookie workshops. Stay tuned for our cookie yoga workshop coming next Spring and some more fun decorating these cookie shapes. Sweet Namaste! Xo Dani

A Wedding Cake Topper Love Story: Tina, Mike & Eli

Meet Tina, Mike & Eli!

Meet Tina, Mike & Eli!

One of my very favorite assignments is to work on is a wedding… I love LOVE and to be involved in anybody’s big day is such an honor. I was so thrilled when Tina Webber, producer for Martha Stewart asked me to design cookie cake toppers for her wedding cake.

Tina and I chatted a bit about the look and feel of her wedding (held at Perona Farms in NJ), her dress and other fun details. I knew I had the perfect cutter to use for them as a couple but I had to order a mini French Bulldog cutter for Eli to keep with the proper size and proportion.

While icing I always refer to a photo of my subjects. In this case I pieced together a photo collage in Photoshop detailing the bridal gown, groom's tux, the veil and their furry bestie, Eli! For best accuracy when icing dogs I always request a photo in similar position to the cookie cutter.

Since we always create doubles of all wedding cake toppers for every order (in case one breaks), Tina requested that one bride topper wear glasses and the other not. Her glasses are so signature her, but she still hadn’t decided if she would wear her glasses on their big day.

The cookie face on this bride is so small, I had to draw the glasses on with a brown LePen (the famed fave pen of all MSLO employees and alum). I added a brush of gold luster to create a bit of a tortoise frame feel and warned her not to eat the head due to the marker. 😉
