“Hand Me the Mic” Rock Star Birthday Party

“Though she be but little, she is fierce!” ― William Shakespeare

Bette Kane is no wallflower… She loves singing and dancing and when asked what theme she wanted for her 4th birthday party she told her Mom “a music party where everybody sings”…

The invitation was easy enough to design. Amanda snapped a quick photo with her iPhone of Bette singing into her home microphone (one of her favorite toys)

I knew star cookies were a must for this, but I also thought it would be super fun to do a microphone. Its one of those cookies that also doubles as an awesome prop and prop cookies are my fave!

Why yes, that is a GOLD microphone! If it's good enough for Christina Aguleira...

I felt it was extra good karma that the star cutters I used were vintage from Disneyland!

To enhance the Rock Star theme, we ordered a bunch of super fun blow up props from Oriental Trading.

Lakehoue Music Acandemy, where the party was held and where Bette takes music lkessions has such a cool look and feel. Our cake table looked awesome set against one of the rustic walls in their lobby.

Bette's family is famous for their combo chocolate and vanilla birthday cakes. In this version we stacked a small chocolate atop a bigger vanilla.

There was something for everyone on this cake table... the wrapped cookies are gluten free.

Before pizza and cake time though, the kids went up to the studio and did their rock star thing!

We stuck with the black and white theme for table cloths and paper plates. We decorated the tables with the glasses and Rock Star temporary tattoos.

Cookie Yoga

Happy National Yoga Month!

Happy National Yoga Month!

I tried yoga for the first time a few years ago. In my younger days I had the wrong impression that it would not be an intense enough workout to counteract all of my cookie eating but boy, was I wrong!

I was super excited when Heirloom Kitchen asked me to create cookie favors for an opening party they were hosting for Lululemon. I immediately reached out to Yummi Yogi… I had been admiring their adorable cookie cutters at the studio I take yoga and barre class for a while and Amy Dube, the owner, generously offered to send me the entire set!

Channeling my inner cookie yogi, I mapped out a plan to design cookie favors for the event take home as well as some cookies for the Lululemon guests to eat right on the spot. I decorated the favor cookies using my fave marbleizeing technique…

I love how the marbelized lines make these yogis look like they are expending energy! That was the effect I was going for.

I had SO much fun decorating this set!

I stuck with a black, white and red color scheme for the outfits. I am in love with all the fun patterned yoga pants so I had fun adding some designed ones in.

Neilly and her team at Heirloom Kitchen set up the most beautiful and delicious spread on their farm table for the party.

When it came time for dessert, I jumped in to help reset the table with sweets.

We barely got the cookies and cuppies out before people were eating them- this always makes me so happy!

Thanks to Heirloom Kitchen for including me in such a SWEET event! I am so looking forward to our upcoming Holiday cookie workshops. Stay tuned for our cookie yoga workshop coming next Spring and some more fun decorating these cookie shapes. Sweet Namaste! Xo Dani
