It seems that as we travel on through this journey of life, the universe shows you things that you need to see. Being an artist, I find myself finding visual clues here and there… years ago it was owls and they led to some amazing stuff. These days I’ve been “seeing” a lot of anchors and many, many rainbows and clouds.

I fell in love with this “head in the clouds” pillow when I first saw it on the cover of the Land of Nod catalog months ago. Its just so SWEET! I knew I had to have one and since my brother and Nicole were expecting, I went ahead and ordered two!

One may be surprised to learn this is the bed of a 40 year old...

One may be surprised to learn this is the bed of a 40 and 40+ old…

Before Cece was born, Nicole and I decided to take photos of her every month on her birth day. Lots of people are doing baby month by month photo documentation these days and I even picked up a 12 month frame to put the final photos in…

First we take a photo of Cecelia wearing a onesie with a month marker sticker- Nicole got these as a gift at her shower. Sweet!

The first shot we take is of Cecelia in the same spot, with the same stuffed animal wearing a onesie with a month marker sticker- Nicole got the stickers as a gift at her shower. Sweet!

This has become a super fun project that has evolved. Photography is a much loved hobby of mine and I can never take just one photo! Also, I’m always and forever a prop stylist at heart and Cecelia is so great about taking photos and is just so cute! SO, we started doing theme shoots as well! Just like cookies, each month we take into consideration time of year, it there’s a big holiday etc… and have been basing the themes accordingly…

Last month I packed up some extra fabric from my studio as well as my fabric scissors (designating a fabric only scissors will change your life if you are a crafter!)

Last month (April) on my way over, I packed up some extra fabric from my studio as well as my fabric scissors (Designating a fabric only scissors will change your life if you are a crafter!) and a large piece of paper…

I laid down a large piece of blue paper- in retrospect I wished it was larger- and cut pieces of fabric on a slight "rainbow curve". (I can hear my co prop stylist Kait saying "Dani, don't you want to iron that green piece?" Well I did, but there was no time!

I laid down this 24 x 36 piece of blue handmade paper I have been hoarding, errr, I mean saving as a base (in retrospect I wished it was a larger sheet) and cut pieces of fabric on a slight “rainbow curve”…

The cloud pillow was a perfect fit! (I can hear my favorite prop stylist, Kait, saying "Dani, don't you want to iron that green piece?" Well I did, but there was no time! Babies don't like to wait and luckily C covered up that wrinked part with her cuteness!)

Babies don’t like to wait! Luckily Cece covered up that wrinked part with her cuteness! But if you are doing this project you may want to have an iron handy)

Next we placed her into the shot and started snapping away… Its always ideal to have two people working on shots like this so one person can keep the baby’s interest while the other is shooting and checking shots.

Ummm, Mom, so a, how long is Aunt Dan going to be? Pretty sure I have a bottle coming to me? Just saying. Xo C

A little bit of photoshop made our piece of paper “larger”, and here we have it!

Cecelia Rose Chasing Rainbows!

Cecelia Rose Chasing Rainbows! I love how she stretched out her arms and looked to the side! YES!!!

I can’t wait to see what we come up with next month! Here’s wishing you and especially little Cecelia Rose a rainbow with every cloud you may encounter… and if you don’t see a rainbow, take a moment to look a little closer. That cloud just might be smiling itself!  Xo Dani

* We were not paid or compensated in any way by Land of Nod… we just really “heart” their pillows and other stuffed friends!

Through the Porthole in Asbury Park, NJ

We are always excited to see what our favorite video and film friend, Mike Boylan is up to. Last week were were invited to a very fun premiere of his latest project… the first episode in his new documentary series for the Asbury Anchor called  ”Through the Porthole”. The event was held at Cafe Volan, a delicious and super cool cafe located a few steps off Cookman Ave in Asbury Park, NJ.

Anchors have been popping up in my life quite a bit recently, so I was immediately inspired to make Mike and Jason (editor of the Asbury Anchor) a “happy movie premierecookie box. I love that the Anchor is highlighting the creatives of Asbury Park, which is not only a beach town but is also an artsy, eclectic and musical place.

The Anchor has a super cool logo so I went with a black white and grey color scheme with a few food doodled anchors to go with

I love The Anchor‘s hand drawn looking logo so I went with a black, white and grey color scheme to go with (with red candy hearts, of coarse!) and drew in a few “food doodled” anchors over the white cookies. I tied these boxes closed with a thick rope like twine.

It was a great turnout for the premiere... cool crowd, delicious snacks from Seeds of Change, lots of good buzz

We enjoyed a few super inspiring short films before seeing the feature presentation Episode 1 of Through the Porthole which was about “Sweet Joey’s“, a eclectic and amazing denim specialty shop in Asbury.
