The Hunger Games Mockingjay Cookie Set

“After the dancing, a huge cake was wheeled out from a side room. It was beautiful, blue-green like the sea with white-tipped waves made from icing. There was fish, sea flowers, sailboats and seals which all resembling District 4. Katniss instantly knew that the cake was made by Peeta, and it was later revealed that frosting the cake worked like therapy for Peeta, who was going through treatment after being hijacked.” The Hunger Games

I couldn't help but add some graphics to this setup of the Mockingjay Wedding Cookie Set. I was imagining A&F sailing off into the sunset after their wedding.

As an event designer, stylist and cookie artist, I so love telling a story. The above quote was given to me when SheKnows gave me this cookie assignment and all I could think was ‘Wait! I need to know more! What about the dress? What is the wedding location? How many guests?!’ 🙂 The pressure of knowing a visually stunning movie will debut, and that scene will be visualized made me nervous, but thinking back to the books being the original material, and how those images play out individually for each person calmed me a bit. Also, I had to get baking because the shoot was already scheduled!

The Mockingjay is finished with an extra thin tip and silver disco dust... I wanted it to look sketchy so was happy with the way it turned out.

I loved the way Irina styled our cookie platter

I loved the way SheKnows Food Editor, Irina Gonzalez (@MsIrinaGonzalez) styled our cookie platter!

I’m so happy with the way they turned out and even more excited that we shot a how-to on every cookie! See the article with all the how-to’s one these cookies here at SheKnows.com

While I love them all as The Mockingjay set, individually these are cookies that can translate into so many life occasions… and that is what I love about cookie decorating! That perfect white-tipped wave, well KF, (my husband) the surfer has been chasing it for years. The primitive bird cutter we used for the Mockingjay will also happily join our dinosaur cookie friends. The sailboat and fish- hello 3D cookie Summer theme! The white sea flower is my new fave flower shape and I’m thinking this seal may just have to join our signature SDB Animal Menagerie

So keep these cookies and techniques in mind as you are enjoying Katniss kicking butt (#likeagirl) in the new Hunger Games Movie! I hope they inspire you as this project inspired me! Xo Dani
