40 Favorite Things Party

With 40 in my rearview, I look back at this party with a big smile but the days before and of, I was definitely stressed about it. Will everyone have fun? Will people leave hungry? Will I have time to get a manicure? (no)

Me & Kevin and lots and lots of balloons!

Me & Kevin and lots and lots of balloons!

Sharing this party with Kevin, my “birthday bestie” (who will always be one day older than me) was def the best part. Having someone to celebrate with def takes the heat off the singing and cake slicing portion of the party. I came up with the favorite things theme after I spied an adorable kids party with the same theme on Hostess With the Mostess. Via text, Kevin and I free wrote 20 favorite things each, then figured out how to incorporate them into the party. Here’s the fun details of our 40 Favorite Things Birthday Party, one year later!

The party was held in the upstairs dining room at City Bistro in Hoboken. I worked with owner, John Avoletta, on the restaurant branding years and years ago. Its a Hoboken tried and true classic and the party room is perfect!

Balloons are my favorite so we ordered lots in our favorite colors

I designed some fun signs for the party using arrows and our favorite colors. This one explained our balloon gallery. Photography is a favorite for both of us so including a gallery of favorites was super fun.

We had so much fun with the balloon gallery. The hardest part was editing down photos!

We also used the same square format photos as table decoration. I made our favorite spiced nuts which are the best pairing with cocktails and put them on every table.

Signature drinks were my favorite- a dirty martini and Kevin's favorite- Dewars & club. Cheers!

What is party without party hats. We had so much fun crafting these party hats together with KF, Kevin, Amanda and their kiddos! The best part was that almost everybody wore them!

What is birthday party without party hats? Googly eyes, glitter and mustaches were on our favorites lists so this is how we incorporated them. We had so much fun crafting these party hats together with KF, Kevin, Amanda and their kiddos! The best part was that almost everybody wore them!

Party hats and other fun props made the "photobooth" fun.

Our sweets table really highlighted our favorites... a cupcake tower by Carrie of Goodiebox Bake Shop was the centerpiece. (Note my evidence of nerves and rushed setup here... our cake is far from the center of this table. Still burns me to this day!)

Carrie custom made these cake pops for us based on our favorite peanut butter and chocolate.

Carrie especially made these gloriously delish cake pops for us based on our favorites… peanut butter and chocolate.

One of the other desserts we included on our sweets table were these adorable mini Peanut Butter Pies made by bestie, Tamara Dilworth, using the amazing recipe from In Jennie's Kitchen. KF and I enjoy this pie at least once a year, always keeping Jennie and Mikey's story in mind.
