I have always loved the Sock Monkey theme for a birthday party but what I especially loved about designing this theme into
Cecelia’s 1st party is that for her it came from an authentic place- this sock monkey one of her favorite toys! I gave the sock monkey on the left to my brother years ago (of course I bought one for myself too!) I’m happy to say it has become one of Cecelia’s favorite stuffed animal friends!
Nicole, Cece’s Mom, and I began brainstorming by sharing a board together on
Pinterest. To say that I am obsessed with Pinterest would be an understatement. I use it for work, inspiration and even find “pinning” a fun and relaxing thing to do in my free time.
Once we decided on our favorites we got to work…
I did a sock monkey illustration for the invite and mounted it on craft paper.
We also covered the tables in craft paper. We filled white bowls with bananas for the centerpieces and added a mini sock monkey “holding” a single red balloon to each. (Did I mention it was a blizzard outside?)
We added “C Confetti” to the tables as well as pink and red glitter heart confetti. Chalk was for doodling and we set the tables with the red plates, pink forks and chevron napkins to add color and festiveness! We made sure to let everyone know about Cece’s birthday party hashtag!
Since most of Cecelia’s friends are close to her age, Nicole thought this DIY ball pit would be a great “activity” and she was right! The kids loved it!
We crafted monkey face party hats using solid colored hats, circle and oval cutouts and black bead scrapbook stickers
We decorated the sweets table with a colorful chevron handpainted table runner, added a few sock monkey friends, and draped a photo banner along the back wall made up of monthly photos Nicole and I had taken of Cecelia every month on her birthday. As well as the cupcake tower, we served C’s confetti cookies (recipe to follow, I promise!) and Aunt Tam’s famous banana bread.
The centerpiece of the sweets table was a GoodieBoxBake Shop tiered mini cupcake tower. I topped C’s smash cake with a cookie of her and a few pink sock monkey cookies. The table looked busy, bananas and fun!
My favorite part of the party was when one of Cecelia’s Uncles came out dressed as a giant sock monkey! (The crowd went wild)
He was such a good sport he even got into the ball pit to play!
C was not as in to Uncle Sock Monkey as the rest of us.
After the candle blowout, it was time for C to enjoy her smash cake by Carrie of Goodiebox Bake Shop .
Hold up. This IS delish!
The Auntie paparazzi was pleased!
Pretty SWEET Aunt Dan!
We sent everyone home with bananas from the centerpieces packed in these little brown bags with Aunt Tam’s Banana Bread recipe attached
…and of course, some cookie favors!
As the party came to a close, Cece tried on her new hat and spent some time with her favorite friends.
Fun was had by all!
Whew! What a whirlwind!
I hope this theme inspires you to do some monkeying around of your own this year! All of our inspiration and sources for this party have been pinned to our
Cecelia’s Sock Monkey 1st Birthday Pinterest board.
Happy 1st Birthday C! Love you! Xo Aunt Dani
