Puckered Lip Smiling Fish

SDB Mermaid underwater painting
You will find 2 fun puckered up fish in this painting I did for a little girl’s playroom!

Ever since I was young enough to doodle, the puffy lipped fish you see below always showed up in my sketches… so when I was designing the smiling fish cookie cutter, I made sure that this version would also be an option for decorating.

Hello Ladies!
Hello Ladies!

The key piece to make the smiling fish pucker up are these amazing sour lip gummy candies which happen to be very popular around Valentines day. Luckily, I have been able to find them online all year round.

Here’s how to decorate the puckered lip Smiling Fish…

Gather your supplies... sour lip candies, royal icing in white and gold, coarse gold ssanding sugar, black candy beads, SDB decorating tweezers...

While icing is still wet, sprinkle with sanding sugar... I have been really loving this pearlized coarse gold sanding sugar! The color and texture is one of my favorites- not to mention coarse sanding sugar makes your cookies extra delicious!

Ahhh a delicious platter of smiling fish!

Next, let dry for 8 hours or overnight then Pucker Up!!! I love the combo of the puckered up fish with our M&M covered “fancy fish”. Trust me, your kiddos will love this combo too!

Its worth noting, that the 3/4 view is also adorable without the sour lips- although, sour lip candy fans might not agree!

I hope this inspires you to try this version of our Smiling Fish- we have had some really great times with this cookie cutter this summer! Be sure to check out our Sweet Dani B TV how-to ice videos and our inspiration Pinterest boards to see all the different ways he (or she) can be iced! What a perfect cookie to bake for your end of summer BBQ this weekend… After all, no one can be too sad about the end of summer when the Smiling Fish is around! Woohoo! Glug Glug!  Xo Dani
