Jersey Strong Meets the Governor

There wasn’t much chance to over think it or plan… After running my morning errands yesterday morning I got a text from my friend Amanda who was waiting on the Asbury Boardwalk with her family and a good sized crowd of locals to meet and greet NJ Governor Chris Christie. “He’s not here yet.” So we jumped on our bikes…

We're on the way, Governor!

I just so happened to have some Jersey Strong cookies with me- some samples I plan to drop off to a local business interested in carrying them.

There's the crowd. Not too big but dense. I'd have to be a but pushy but I really wanted to give him a cookie...

So I stepped in and went for it… “Excuse me Governor, (my voice was shaking a bit) I wanted to give you a few of my Jersey Strong cookies and thank you for being so amazing and inspiring. Its so great to see you here today!”

"Wow" he said, "These are cookies! Let's get a picture!" (Woohoo! Smile! Take off sunglasses! Wonder to self why I did not put on makeup this morning)

As he walked down the boardwalk and continued on, he shook hands, posed for photos, chatted intensely with people who still need reassurance and help.

...then when Amanda got her chance, she greeted the Governor with a big hug. It was amazing (so mad I missed the shot- too many people in my way) We were totally choked up!

After the hug she said “Thanks for coming!” Not only does Amanda have Jersey Pride but her Asbury pride runs deep as well!

We followed the crown up to pucker. One of our favorite boardwalk snack destinations (their fries are a must).

The Jersey Shore is back but there’s still more to do- there are areas that still need reconstruction, boardwalks that are un-finished, and there are still people who need help. Today I will drop off the rest of my Jersey Strong cookie samples and check in with the other shops who have been helping me sell them. Every little bit counts.

We loved seeing the Governor in person. Its incredible what a short visit  filled with hand shakes, waves, smiles will do. The acknowledgment and “we are here for you” reassurance that the Governor has given to the people who suffered, to the small businesses that were hit, is what sets him apart and made it so exciting to meet him. It has been a rough road back from Hurricane Sandy but I’m so proud of our state and how everyone pulled together.

Our love story with the Jersey Shore continues and we are honored and excited to now be a direct part of the Shore community.

Blue skies ahead, smiles all around, we jumped back on our bikes feeling an extra spring in our step and a little extra Jersey Strong!

Happy Memorial Day to all! Thank you to our Veterans, Troops, and Military families who bravely serve and protect us. Cheers to the Jersey Shore- back from Sandy and are looking onward and upward! Thank you to Governor Chris Christie for the hope and inspiration- I really hope you enjoyed the cookies! Life is Sweet! Xo Dani
