Cookie Fun at the RISD Alumni Sale

If I ever had to move anywhere other than where I live now, Providence, RI would definitely be a contender. Its a beautiful, artsy, fun, New England city and after spending 4 years in collage there, it still feels like another “home” to me. The RISD Alumni sale is an annual craft fair event and I was excited to make the cut this year, so this past Friday we packed our Mini to the brim with cookies and made a beeline to Providence.

After a delicious dinner at one of our favorite places in Providence, Meeting Street Cafe (we highly recommend the broccoli & friends or the tuna melt), we turned in early in in preps for the Alumni Sale Saturday morning.

I woke up early Saturday morning to pick up coffee on Atwells Ave- also known as Providence’s Little Italy or the Pineapple District
SDB RISD alum sale_KF setup
KF is all business as he takes over set up of the table… here he is telling me we are “over assorted”. It’s always hard to decide what to bring, quantity etc… and no matter what you have, someone will always ask for the cookie you thought of bringing but didn’t… C‘est la Vie!

Speaking of “such is life”, I added the eyes and mouth design to these candy corns too late in the baking week game plan to make more… here you see the “last man standing”. They sold out by 10:30 am.

I was excited to debut our Fall Gnome & Gnomis… Gnomi sold out first- everybody LOVED the touches of disco dust glitter. This fashion forward Gnomi sports a 14k gold hat!

Surprisingly, many people wanted to buy our sparkling silver business card hand holder (inspired by Micheal Jackson of course!) but alas, this cookie is about 8 months old and is def not for sale! I will have to make more…
SDB RISD alum sale_mustache cookie cutter designer
I was super excited when fellow alum, Liz Dubois, introduced herself to us as the designer of the Fred and Friends cookie cutters I used to make these mustache cookies on a stick. Check back for our fun & fab mustache cookie gallery tomorrow!
SDB RISD alum sale_KF dog glomming
One of my favorite things about outdoor craft fairs is the furry attendees… here KF gloms a sweet little guy…
SDB RISD alum sale_isabel
Don’t tell Spot & Hope! Here’s me glomming Isabel, one of five brother and sister whippets who we met when they stopped by our table to sniff the goods. They were adorable and amazingly well behaved!

The sale really slowed down in the last hour so KF manned the table while I did some shopping and picked us up a coffee and capp from one of my favorite RISD landmark cafes- Car House

The sale proved to be busy and lucrative in many ways… we practically sold out of everything we brought, and it was so nice to meet everybody, get feedback and enjoy an afternoon on the beautiful and breezy Benefit Street. Thanks to everyone who came out to see us!
SDB RISD alum sale_waterfire
That night we were excited to earn that WaterFire was happening in Providence… its a beautiful event featuring fires set in the water of the city’s canals…

WaterFire is mesmerizing and moving… if you are planning a trip to Providence, check to see if one will be held during your stay- you will not regret it!
SDB RISD alum sale_new rivers
We ended the day with a toast and a delicious meal at New Rivers, a quaint and yummy restaurant right near the canals…

  • Dani, did you use a custom made cutter for the Giant Candy Corn cookies? Love the EYES!!!!

Does the Cup for Cup GF flour have garbanzo bean flour in its ingredients? I can’t eat that, and finding NON-gritty GF flours has been such a challenge!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • I used purchased icing eyes for the candy corn but you could easily make them yourself- just need more drying time.
The cup 4 cup is supposed to be best for baking… mostly brown rice flour. Will keep you posted! Xo
