11 years ago today, KF and I walked down the aisle! I woke up this morning and looked at our wedding invitefor a few minutes and I still love it. The outer invitation was a wraparound sun (for me) and sea wave (for him) that I hand painted on a scrap of canvas, scanned and designed using Photoshop and Illustrator. Even though the font we chose (a whimsical serif called Ablefont) “seconds later” became more well known as the Harry Potter font, I still wouldn’t change a thing about the design.
The night before our mailing deadline, we die cut each sun and swirl by hand to create the perfect beaming sun and rolling wave… it took forever! My parents came over and helped us address each envelope using gold paint pens (the most annoying pens on the planet!). We worked well into the night and were so relieved when my Mom called the next day to say each had been hand cancelled at the post office (by her!) and they were finally in the mail!
I remember hearing the buzz that some people were “shocked” to receive our wedding invitation in a black envelope (“kind of dark, no?”, “is it a funeral or wedding?”) but design and color wise that seemed the best fit to us and we never have a problem being “black sheep“. Thinking back to that time, the rush and the deadlines and the mishaps- along with the joys and the bubbles and the love, are all part of what makes up your story together. Our wedding “chapter” was a fun, crazy and sometimes stressful adventure and I love looking back at it.
“All of these lines across my face
Tell you the story of who I am
So many stories of where I’ve been
And how I got to where I am
But these stories don’t mean anything
When you’ve got no one to tell them to
It’s true…I was made for you…”

Here’s to many, many more years of living our “story”. Happy Anniversary… I love you, KF! Xo Dan
