A few weeks ago I started following the blog, In Jennie’s Kitchen… My cookie friend, Gail Dosk, posted a link to the video “Mikey’s Peanut Butter Pie” to her facebook page and ever since I could not stop thinking about Jennie, who lost her husband, Mikey, to a sudden heart attack. Her answer for what people could do to help her healing process was to “make a peanut butter pie and share it with someone you love.”
This request really hit home for me. Not only because it is a beautiful, touching, heartfelt tribute, but also because it sums up why I love to bake and cook, or even just share a meal out at a restaurant with the ones I love.
With the help of my friends, Tamara and Nomi, I made Mikey’s pie this past weekend… for my husband, for my brother, and for my friends who I love so much. I made the crust from my own chocolate heart cookies and then followed Jennie’s recipe. It was perfect… a bit messy to slice, but delicious and brimming with love and hope.
