Cookies Come to Life!

I was so excited when Anduin Havens, Production Designer and Art Director of the Martha Show, emailed me to let me know that Martha’s producers wanted to animate the icing process of my fluted egg cookies for Martha’s Easter special. I have been admiring Martha’s stop animation styling since I first saw it in Martha’s cookie app (which is amazing!) so I was very excited.

On Cookie Egg animation day I arrived at Studio One of Martha’s photo studios in the Starrett Lehigh building in NYC. Cookie supply kit in hand, I quickly unpacked and got down to business.

Here's a shot of my work table- I am not the neatest worker!

Stylist Helen Quinn  greeted me and showed me her sketches of the rundowns- I love her illustrations.

I was excited to see Johnny Miller was assigned to the shoot- he is very well known in the Living world- and I was lucky enough to have him shoot my Christmas cookies for the Dec 09 issue!

Once the “stage” was set we were off! Being careful not to move the cookies I iced the 3 marbleized eggs in steps as Helen styled and Johnny shot each one.

After the process shots, Helen styled a beauty shot with these and other fluted egg cookies that I decorated.

After lunch (from one of my NYC favorites- ‘wichcraft), Helen was scheduled to shoot stop animation of the Easter baskets and needed some help. We decided the chocolate bunnies needed some finishing touches of royal icing to add color and jimmies to add texture to their baskets.

I helped Helen with a few other touches and stood by to watch the animation take shape. The bunny in basket animation is really fun as the bunny moves into frame and jumps into the basket!

It was such a great experience and I can’t wait to see my Fluted Egg Cookies coming to life in Martha’s Eggcellent Easter special! Don’t forget to tune in for the premiere April 17th on the Hallmark channel! Order the Fluted Egg Cookie Cutter here (under the cookie cutter tab) and make some Fluted Easter Egg Cookies of your own- totally Eggcellent!
